I read here that the play The Arts: For Colored Girls Who Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf is coming to the 14th Street Playhouse August 22nd through September 7th.

The play is about the experiences of African-American women written in the 1970's. It is a series of twenty performances of poems by women who have no names. This play was nominated for a number of awards including a Tony, and an Emmy for the television adaption.

This sounds interesting. I've never seen play of poetry. Has anyone seen this play before? I know that it's been around for a long time. Do you recommend seeing it?

This show is a groundbreaking piece of work. It was noted for bringing back an interest of African American lifestyle to mainstream theater. If you're looking for something different and REAL -- not some conjured up weak glimpse into Black culture, then this is the show for you. But we warned: it's not for the faint of heart. Like I said, it's REAL; it's raw but not obscene. There are real stories here, not a faux Hollywood ending (which is quite emotional) and everything we, as women, face interweaved throughout. Take a hankie.
