Ah, robcast seems a bit disgruntled, but many of us have been too. There is a bit more public parking than he mentioned, and his comment is a good reminder to not park in places where you might get ticketed. Here is a web site that details all your parking options in downtown Decatur:

MARTA is a great way to get to downtown Decatur, and to any of the area festivals because parking and traffic is especially bad then. Particularly, the Decatur station is right under the Square. You can park your car for free at Inman Park, Candler Park, Lindbergh, Avondale, Kenningston, Indian Creek or West End stations if you want to drive part-way then hop on the train.

Stay out of the City of Decatur...

I just spent $560 dollars in traffic court; if I would have paid it online it would have only been $210. Thanks City of Decatur. Six spots to park in front of the court with meters that were all broken! No other public parking available except in the back of the police station where every spot had a sign posted saying "Park At Your Own Risk"! BEHIND THE POLICE STATION!

I would think most real estate agents do their job well. The price range for your daughter and son-in-law are low, which means they will be looking at buying a condo/townhome and not a house. Virginia Highlands/Morningside, anything around Emory University or downtown Decatur would be safe, good options.

Oakhurst is also a pretty safe area and they might be able to find a small house there, though more likely in the bordering Kirkwood neighborhood, though keeping it close to Oakhurst as the further you head toward downtown it gets a little more transitional.

Our daughte and son-in-law are looking to purchase their first home. They looking to spendin the low$200's. Can anyone offer suggestions on a good, safe, neigborhood for a young white college educated couple to look that is convienent to downtown Atlanta? We as parents are worried for them purchasing and moving into an area that we have no knowledge about. Can we rely on their Realtor? Please, we welcome any suggestions. Concerned parents from the burbs!
